On July 30, alumni of Class of 1987 of foreign languages of Xiamen University (XMU) gathered in Qingdao to celebrate their 25th anniversary of graduation. More than 30 graduates, majoring in Japanese, French, and English, attended the gathering held every five years. Several schoolfellows of XMU Alumni Association of Qingdao attended the event at invitation.

It was the first time that they met in Qingdao, and the committee provided elaborate planning and organization. They enjoyed their tour in this island city and recalled their friendship, visiting the new landmark of Qingdao “The Wind of May”, sightseeing on the sea, and appreciating the charm of Qingdao in Xiaoyu Moutain and Qingdao Hotel in spite of the heat. They walked hand in hand, and embraced each other with delightful smile on their faces.

The evening party themed as “The Ode to Joy of 8702” not only provoked their feelings for the bygone days but also truly expressed the great joy of their reunion. The party consisted of six chapters, including the opening, playback of the old photos, alumni catwalk, awarding, performing, and the lucky draw. The party was full of excitement and climax with delightful laughter and thunderous applause. Guests and schoolfellows both tasted the delicious dishes and aromatic wine while appreciating the wonderful shows they performed.

The reunion party of the Class of 1987 of foreign languages of XMU ended with the familiar song of Ode of Joy and Tomorrow Will Be Better. They promised to reunite in Xiamen in 2021 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the alma mater, which will also be the year of their 30th anniversary of graduation.
